Therapeutic models and approaches used
We will often use or draw on different aspects of the following therapeutic models; your care will however be 100 per cent person centred to your needs.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a widely researched and therefore evidenced-based treatment for many common mental health problems (e.g. anxiety and depression). CBT is based on the rationale that an individuals thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and directed actions are all interconnected and that negative/ unhelpful thinking and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. CBT aims to work with individual to break down these areas into more manageable parts and provides practical ways to improves your state of mind on a daily basis.
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) helps those who struggle with the shame and self-criticism that may have resulted from early experiences. CFT works with individuals to build skills in self compassion, which can help to manage mood and lead to feelings of safety, self- acceptance and comfort. CFT has been shown to effectively treat long-term emotional problems including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders and eating disorders.
Dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT)
Is an evidence-base psychotherapy that was first developed to treat personality disorders and interpersonal conflicts. There is evidence that DBT can be useful in treating mood disorders, suicidal ideation, and for change in behavioural patterns such as self-harm and substance use. DBT has been used by practitioners to treat people with depression, drug and alcohol problems, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injuries (TBI), binge-eating disorder, and mood disorders.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an information processing psychotherapy that was developed to resolve symptoms resulting from disturbing and unresolved life experiences. EMDR uses a structured approach to consider past, present and future aspects of disturbing memories. EMDR works on the principle that difficult memories can impact upon the brains ability to process information in a healthy way. Unprocessed memoires often the n remind in the brain’s memory along with accompanying negative emotions, beliefs and physical sensations. EMDR works by stimulating the left and right sides of the brain (bilateral stimulation), this stimulation is thought to unblock memories and allow them to be processed in the same way as ordinary memories; thus reducing emotional distress connected with them. EMDR is now a recommended treatment for many aspects of psychological distress.
Integrative therapy
This involves selecting the techniques from different therapeutic orientations best suited to a client's particular problem. By tailoring the therapy to the individual, integrative therapists hope to produce the most significant effects
The main models of therapy that I draw upon are Compassionate Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassionate Focused therapy (CFT) and Psychodynamic and Attachment Informed Approaches. I am Intensively trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy with British Isles DBT Training and I am an Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist, having trained through Richman EMDR training (approved by EMDR International Association and by EMDR Europe Association).
